I've bought my 205 GTI now and was wondering what would be stopping me putting the car in my girlfriends name and then me driving it TPFT on my own policy (I'm insured fully comp and it covers me driving other peoples cars TPFT) Or is this a bit dodgy?? Cheers Ad
You'd need to insure it to tax it. Your policy may well only cover you to drive another car if it's already insured by the owner (it varies). Also, your policy may not cover a car owned by a member of your household (again it varies). Cover is only TPO not TPFT, so the car would not be insured for theft etc. Finally, if you had a prang and the Insurers investigated and found your girlfriend owned the car and didn't have it insured and you were driving it, it would be pretty obvious that it was your car and then they could well declare your policy void... Not really worth it - get a 2nd car quote from HIC etc.
