Can I buy a second hand key, swap the blade then get it recoded? Are there different keys or will any Mk5 3 button one work?

    Cheers

You can't code second hand keys as that age of vw you can only code the key transponder once or to the same car

Get that boy you got last time to do it
There is also a boy the dose Bentley key fobs
Not my cup of tea but some like that kind of thing

    The guy says:

    Hi Ian,
Used remotes can be reprogrammed but it has to be a 1KO 959 753 G
The number is printed on the remote.
The flip section holds the transponder chip (that starts the engine)
This chip cannot be reprogrammed and has to be replaced.
So if you buy a used one make sure it is the correct type as there are 5 different types of VW 3 button remotes for different models
Cost to reprogram a used remote and supply a new chip and flip blade would be around 60.00

    Regards
    Jim

I've dropped it off with him today. He does do it mobile but he is only a couple of miles from my work so my mate followed me there this morning, dropped it off and we will pass again on our way home.

I got a key off e-bay for 12 delivered so it's costing 72 all in.
