Can anyone recommend an upholsterer who has experience of making new seat covers? I have searched the web but here doesn't seem to be any proper off the shelf options. There is a company in Germany but their website does not inspire confidence and they want a month between payment and potential despatch. https://seatcovers.de/VWGolf-MK2-artificial-leather-seat-covers The price seems reasonable but the front covers fit over the existing which is not right to me.
I follow a chap on Instagram Phil - Optimus Automotive Trimmers (UK Based) - this guy seems to do some seriously good work - worth reaching out in my opinion. Optimus Automotive Trimmers UK - 1,154 photos - 3 reviews - Automotive repair centre - G73 2RR Rutherglen (facebook.com)
Not 100% but used to follow this guy on Facebook when had it, had some belts refurbished, he is on ebay too, think he did interiors, JW Autotrim, if not he may be able to recommend someone. Theres a trimmer in Sparkford, Somerset, near Haynes motor museum, very good. I tried someone local-ish up here in Yorkshire and got quote of 450 plus the dreaded to cover rear seat on mk2 in black leatherette with silver stitching. Was also a company in Birmingham that did covers for different car seats, definitely mini, and more,I'll try and remember Phil. https://www.facebook.com/JWAutoTrim/
Dean at autotrimdirect was guy I spoke too about mini rear seat to match the sparco seats, about a year ago, but sold car before getting a proper answer. https://autotrimdirect.co.uk/
Joe Clarke at Trimdeluxe Littlehampton. 01903 898855 He loves Mk 2 Golfs and does a fantastic job. He's just redone my '87 16v front seats. Beautiful. Amazing value. Eddie
Thanks Eddie, Littlehampton is not too far either. I like to be able to visit people I do business with. Got any pictures?
Not a picture of them done, Im afraid. I just picked them up during a working day and dropped them off to the unit where my car is. But they look brand new and the cushions are fantastic. Fixed a broken cable too, and rips in the vinyl on the backs. This was them before and after cleaning, but the clean picture doesnt show the torn drivers side lateral support, the knackered foam and the rips in the vinyl backs. Joe sorted it all, aided by a pattern replacement foam I bought from Germany, so they look a million dollars now. I can send pictures of them now this weekend, or come and see them! I'm in Chichester. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ADcCuPTBQ485BSZh8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/TTMYayD7ekQe1JgQ6
