Following yesterday's change of clocks we have lost wipers and blower.
I've studied the fuse box FAQs and can't see that they are linked in any way so I'm thinking possibly a dislodged earth?
It's there a common earth for these two?

Wiggle the relays, mine did it a couple of times when first got it, was the 18 relay I think, sort of top right central area, not 100% on the number though.

That's what was the odd thing on mine, it came and went a get times, before I wiggled to sort it.

Work on old cars they said, be great they said.....I'm afraid that sometimes (speaking for myself) I seriously beg to differ!

I might be shot for this but my '86 E28, is to this day, the most reliable older car I've ever owned, I have it since 2008.

The only failures I've had are a radiator (original one) that popped and was replaced with another genuine one, and a heater hose that sprung a leak. I had replaced the coolant hoses as a preventative measure but in my wisdom I forgot to replace the heater hoses and she spanked me for that. (all done now though)

I'd drive that car to the moon and back without hesitation - my current GTI definitely not (at least until I get the rough running sorted anyway which is a bit of a PITA)

relay 18 powers wipers, blowers and several other high amp devices, it kills power to them all while cranking. give it a wiggl with wipers on. a mk4 golf 100 relay works as a replacement. the way to see if its the relay or ignition switch is try the headlights. if they work, ignition switch is fine. if not, start there
