My mk2 is starting to pi$$ me off a bit now. If it sits for a few days it refuses to crank fast enough, pointing to a flat battery. I've replaced the battery, didnt help. Checked for a drain from the alarm/immobiliser, nothing. I checked the starter motor and it seems lazy, so will be replacing that shortly.
Starting to annoy now. Anyone had this before? My mfa and rev counter don't work as well, don't think this is connected, but good to share all faults.
Also, the alternator is charging at 12.8 volts, is this the normal charging rated for a mk2 gti? Some say it is and some say it needs to be 13.5.
    Help will be greatly received.

14V is about right for a healthy alternator.

Read this, learn, apply, fix. It's not about Golfs, but is still valid.

Righty. Returned the alternatora and it's charging right, but the bloody thing still won't charge, even with a full battery. The starter engages, but won't spin, even shorting the terminal. Going for a new starter soon, but could it be a faulty earth with the mfa problems I'm having aswell?
