    had this happen on saturday:

luckily it didnt take out the headlight!

was going straight on at a roundabout, was just moving over to take my exit when an old dear decided that you dont have to give way to the right any more on roundabouts and pulled out straight in front of me. i turned back to the right and hit the brakes but didnt have a chance of stopping. She saw me at the last second and ended up mounting the kerb at the side of the roundabout in her effort to avoid me.

chatting to her afterwards she was well shaken up and admitted not seeing me, and as she was not from the area she was following her daughter in the car in front. obviously paying more attention to her than observing the road!

    looking at it it needs:

    new bonnet
    new wing
    new front indicator
    new nosecone
bumper shell painted and possibly new bumper iron
    slight repair to headlight frame
    new slam panel

no idea what to do really, i have all the bits and tools to repair it just need some paint, dont want it written off and tbh dont want anyone else working on it, im sure a bodyshop will think its just another old car and bodge it, even if they do repair it. just want to fight thje claim tho so i dontlose my no claims bonus!

Seconded - total Tw@s! Drive out in front of someone on a roundabout and it's not their fault? Unless it was Lizzie and Phillip  it's their fault.

Go back to the scene- take lots of photos, do a scale scale drawing etc showing car postions and measure distances when she pulled out on you etc and prove it wasn't your fault m8 - use lamposts, trees, signs anything inanimate as a distance reference.

Don't leave it up to the insurance company as sods law they'll 50:50 it; If you do a decent reoport it will help do accomplish two things; show your insurance co that your not dicking around and 2 they can hit the other insurance company over the head with it.

    Did the Police turn up?

yeah i got loads of pics of the roundabout before i drove off so got that base covered, have got pics of the road layout off google earth etc and took pics of damage to my car, scanned in the page out of the highway code that actually has a diagram showing the lane i was in to be correct etc.

was on fone this morning to her insurance co making sure they realised it was her fault and tried to get details of who to write to but apparently they havent sent it to the liability team yet so didnt know. but am defo on the case!

had my last mk3 variant pushed off the road by an old fkr..just had it painted and serviced..pulled out on me on a r'bout and just kept coming until i had to drive onto the r'bout itself!
i thought they were supposed to be introducing a retest for, what are probably the most dangerous and random road users out there[:x]

good luck with your own claim

    Thread from the dead!

Used to work with a bloke who was a traffic plod and did a bit of VIP escort / motorcade work. They generally tram along at 100mph, and slow off a little for roundabouts. The whole lot, police escorts, special branch, the queen, more special branch, more police etc... has to get through every single junction on the route slowing down as little as possible. Apparently that could be rather interesting [xx(]

havent heard back from her insurers, should get on to them tbh. but tbh dont care what they say.

actually have just unbolted the bent wing and nosecone, as the MOT is coming up in a few weeks time and need to get it all straightened out. have a pair of nice straight genuine wings and a bonnet to go on, and have started prepping the whole shell for paint.

car looks like this (although minus the front end:

decided to sort out an old dent unde rthe tail-light, DIY panel beating FTW

new bumper iron cleaned up and sprayed:

filled in the silly "induction" hole under the VW badge on the replacement nosecone as i run a cold air feed stright from the lower grille:

prepped some other bits which look like this (not my boot btw, mine loads cleaner ;):

    so getting there!

Good to see you're cracking on with it - good luck with the insurance company too.
