I've just got my mfa lcd working on my mk2 golf 1989 ce1 8v gti. But it's now showing -40 on the outside temperature display.

I'm guessing there should be a sensor somewhere that's either missing or not plugged in. Can anyone help with the location of it?

In the engine bay I have a 2 pin plug that hasn't been plugged in since I took the engine out and front bumper off.

Iirc it was under the chassis leg, up front, on the RHS.

I found a bracket in the near side wheel arch which looks like it could be where it should be. But I'm not sure. The 2 pin plug which I'm guessing is for the sensor would reach to this bracket.

Also is this the correct part number does anyone know? 357919379. As I can't find many for sale wondering if it's been superceded.

No probs. Photo was taken from inside the wheel arch looking toward the front of the car. Wheel arch lining was removed, I think that grey oblong shape is the back of the near side indicator in the bumper iron. The sensor is behind the side part of the bumper where it wraps around the wing. In the empty hole below. B7B559EB-28B1-4747-B9E5-F50F58C85ACE.jpeg

Don’t know how often the sensors go bad but I’ve never had to replace one. May be worth checking the wiring at the sensor end?

To test the MFA short out the pins of the plug and it should change the temperature. Should show plus 50 or something like that

My 89 small bumper had new wings fitted.
I Put a beko dishwasher thermistor in to test (MY JOB) . Wrong temp but capable of Working at clock ends. I've heard newer ones give wrong temp readings.

Just checked and I can see where the sensor should be but I have nothing there.

Anyone know where I can get one from?

I’d assume, euro car parts, TPS any of those.

Not that I can find. Plenty for Mk4 etc but not mk2. I don't know the part number or whether other models are compatible. Is this the correct part number 357919379?

What about changing the plug and using a newer sensor?

Looks like it's that or find a used one. If anyone knows a compatible sensor that can be wired in let me know.

VW Heritage may be able to help with an aftermarket or poss one from classics. More likely is Dubstock or Mk2 Spares UK?

Yeah I've already messaged Brendon to see if he has one. I think I'd prefer a used genuine one if I can find one.

171919379A is original MK1/2 version, which is the one you want ideally. 357919379 is Golf G60, early corrado/passat & transporter it is the right rating to suit MK2 clocks but does mean changing the plug on the loom to suit. Its still NLA though so probably not all that much easier to get
