Hi guys, I'm in the process of replacing my rear beam bushes. I had to cut my solid brake pipe on the rear beam as the unions were rusted solid. I will be getting new pipes made up, however am I ok to paint them with hammerite or leave them as copper and coat with grease.? Thanks in advance.
Cheers. That's why I want to cover them - if needed. I know my original body pipes have a plastic covering. I can cover with them waxoyl, but wanted to know what everyone else does - although they would look better unpainted/uncovered.
There was a guy on Edition who actually shrink rapped his brake pipes maybe not as daft as it sounds looked nice and neat in black, don't know how the stuff was bought ?? maybe in long lengths? IIRC he had a rather apt name OCD Shelvey. Really nice white Mk2 Golf, think the thread is still on the go.
I tend to hammerite brake lines on old cars, not very fastidiously and I've no idea if it helps much but I've only ever had brake lines fail before I got to them with hammerite. For your new lines, I'd guess you've many years before you need to worry about them failing due to corrosion
