How about VW v's pattern too? I bet you can save some good weight by fitting a pattern bonnet....

I saved a chunk of weight fitting pattern wings on my beetle, and money

    Thanks Chris [:D]
That was fully built, with glass.
I really didn't think they would be that heavy!

    A bare (uncut) Mk1 door weighs 12kg.

Quite easily chopped a further 1.5kg out of it in 40 minutes. This weight saving stuff is getting addictive, so I may keep going!

Only a 4kg saving from stripping the doors and changing the glass to polycarbonate ? I expected more of a saving to be honest. [:s]

Someone else came up with the 26kgs for a standard door, was not weighed by myself.

edit: also the standard door was weighed without door cars and electrics etc IIRC

Ah !. I thought it was a fully stock door, removed from a car and weighed, hence the 4kg seeming so little. Makes more sense now.

Was just a bare door and glass.

You will save 2kgs with the polycarbonate windows and with the inner door and some butchering around the base of the door and between the hinges another 2kgs is possible.

Switching to a fibreglass door skin would save around 3.5kg - maybe 4kg.
