Help. One of the previous owners of my MK1 golf made a bit of bodge job of putting 6x9's on the shelf. I want to remove them and put a new shelf in but the covering on the shelf is sewn to the rear seat. Is this normal. I know the car was retrimmed at some stage. Should i just unpick the stitching or will it leave a mess. Does anyone know where i can get a stealth shelf or will i have to make one.
you can buy a stealth shelf. but they are very expensive, you can make and cover one for about 15, im not sure about the sewing, i would have to have a look, i think thats just personal judgement really mate, tim
Cheers. Does anyone know if this is normal or not? Having the shelf covering attached to the rear seat?
I haven't seen a shelf cover stitched to the seat before. I don't think it's supposed to be like that. If you carefully unstitch and remove all the thread then you should be able to do a good job without leaving a trace. Not difficult but time consuming - just don't tear it off.
Cheers looks like a long day for me. Be worth it though. I hope. Might just go and see if i can get a new rear seat and shelf from a breaker.
Ha ha. you were kidding. Right? Just been to local VW specialist and they say its meant to be attached by screws to the rear seat. Would be fine if some butcher hadn't bunged some cheap 6x9's in there. I wonder if its the same person who has hacked the door card to pieces to put some crappy speakers behind the door pockets. I am starting to get angry.
I reckon the same bloke must have had a go with my car too...I now spend my days trawling ebay for new door cards!!!
Snap. I need a parcel shelf aswell. Good luck hunting. People who do these things too good cars should be banned from owning them and be forced to drive n*vas, s*xos etc........... Was door cards advertised i The Golf this week but aint been able to get in touch.
We've probably bidded against each other then!! I now finally have the full set and am just waiting to fit them when i can afford some new 6x4 to go in at the same time. They do pop up from time to time on ebay but be prepared to pay....
I aint seen any yet but ive hardly looked. Only had the car a week. Can i be cheeky and ask how much and condition please
Think i paid about 20 for the door cards (it was from one of the mods on here actually...GPP I think) without the map pockets/speakers, which were another 15ish. Think I got the parcel shelf for about 40, found on the classified section on here. Lot of money for old car bits, but they make all the difference! Guess you can always try going round the scrappies, but whenever i've tried they've already gone...
Not to expensive though. Worth it i think. Just had phone call from people doing my stereo and alarm install and they say someone has glued the speaker grills on in the doors Cant get them off without breaking them.
How annoying! Its pretty soul destroying when you're shelling out cash just to rectify past owners carelessness!! I had to spend about 3hours hoovering dog hairs out of mine when i first got it!!
Not haunted. Great car to drive. Just been owned at one stage by a bit of a cowboy/A*seh*le. I've just found a letter showing that one of the previous owners was a member of CLUB GTI
Did you see that topgear or 5th gear which had the haunted cars on? I only remeber the crapri with the 666 number plate
