I recently had my Bora Pd130 serviced. I thought the recommended oil was 5/40w, however the dealer who serviced it, has put in 5/30w.

Which is the right oil? And will 5/30 if it's wrong do any damage?

The car is high mileage and would prefer to look after it as best as possible.

I was always led to believe the 1.9 pd's use a pd specific 5w40 fully synthetic. 5w30 seems a tad thin to me. I could be wrong though

As long as it's to vw 505.01 spec its ok. There are 5w30s and 5w40s that meet the spec.

Pass no idea. So it needs to be a Vw spec oil?
Should the car have 5/40 fully?

Is "quantum" the official supplier to VW?

Right im going to drop out the new oil as I'm not sure if it meets the spec.

I have some carlube 5/40 fully synth, which says its rated to the 500. Numbers and made for VW PD's
Will this be ok? I got it from GSF?

Or do I buy the quantum stuff?

It really needs to be 505, it doesn't have to be quantum though, all the major oil brands do it

Spoke to the place that did it, they only use proper grade pd oil so I have been informed. I'm happy with that.

    Thanks for the help though!

I put 10w40 diesel spec in my 1z, seems to be alot of confusion on the net as to what oil it should be running regardless of mileage.
