Evening Gents, I recently bought a 63 plate Polo GTI and Im absolutely loving it!, definitely an improvement on my old corsa lol However over the last couple of weeks I have had the car go into a limp mode and the engine management light flash under full load, the car will also seem low on power and when its in the higher revs & it will judder quite severely I have taken the car to VW twice and they are unable to find any issue Just putting it here to see if anyone has had anything similar? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUo2aOUYzsA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7eqqFu3a70 Cheers
As it is your first post, Hi and welcome to Club GTI. I have listened to your two videos. The second one suggests you are down a cylinder and the vehicle is misfiring. In the first I am not sure which gear you are in, but at the top of the engine speed range you seem to experience some sort of hold back. There will be an intermediate or pending fault stored in the ECU and the dealer should be able to pick that up and diagnose the root cause from there. This car will be under warranty I believe?
What miles are on it... when did it first happen ..after work under bonnet etc ... I'm sure when you brought it back to Vw they would have scanned it, so its something outside the box Check airbox and intake pipe work from airbox coil packs would show up ....Maybe try another set of plugs in it also.
Hey, welcome to the forum. My Mrs has the same Polo on a 14 plate, and its been a great car. (Touch wood). I remember doing some research before I bought it for her, and I remember coming across this thread on the forum - http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?266474-2012-Polo-GTI-1-4-TSI-PROBLEMS One of the replies came back regarding a spark plug plug problem. So I'd firstly start here. Also, some of the earlier engines needed a software update to stop these stuttering problems, misfiring ect ect... I'm sure the dealers would have plugged it in, and it should have stored a fault code which they should of picked up on. Might be worth going back with all this information and demand it is rectified, especially as its fairly new and still under warranty. Keep us posted.
A friend of mine had had problems with his It had a interment misfire Vw fitted a new short engine after a very short time the second one did the same A misfire due to low compression in one or more cylinders This was put down to bore wash from the injectors The car was rejected at this point
His was a golf with the Same engine My other friend in your link had high oil consumption He loved it but when he tried to trade it into the same chain of dealers against a Audi they wouldn't expect it lol So it was rejected as well
They are good cars it's just a few that have problems I'd take it back and tell them your not taking it back till they find out what's wrong and fix it
That car has got a serious misfire in the video 2. So compression, a plug, a coil pack, injector or an air leak local to a cylinder or 2. There will be a problem with it. Not acceptable for a fairly new car.
The car has done 20k miles, it only just came up out of the blue. I have had zero work done on it as I've only owned it for just over a month. It was also bought from a VW dealer so I presume it must still be stock. When I've taken the back to VW and they have said that they are unable to find any issues as no codes are coming up.
I wonder what we did before we had fault codes Oh yes we checked things and changed likely parts till we found the fault lol Hope you get it fixed quickly
Okay, long time no speak. lol Basically from when I had originally made this post, VW had had the car for 3 days, fast forward 7 WEEKS LATER!!!! I had finally got my car back with a brand new engine, as the original unit had damage on the cylinder head #3. It took them 7 weeks going back and forth between VW uk to get the issue sorted. However I can now report everything is running smoothly, I have since done 8k miles no issues whatsoever!
