hi.first ever time on a forum.just bought a 1.4 16V 1997 polo.i guess loads of people ask this question but it needs lowering.not sure what to do,even phoning the experts doesn't help.i don't really need it mega low and it needs to be comfortable but some say their kits may only lower a 16V 20mm.i'm not going to bother for that amount.these cheaper coilovers-fk-supersport-how comfy are they compared to a fixed lowering kit given that my missus wants to drive it aswell.would i get by with just springs on my shocks for now and then change if i'm not happy with drop or ride? cheers guys and girls.

welcome, nice motor, my girlie has a 1.6 glx - same cosmetically, but with a 75bhp 1.6 8v engine...so slower!

if you're not wanting to go super low, i reckon you should get koni adjustable dampers with eibach -35mm lowering springs..can't go wrong with that kit.

only go for coilovers if you wanna go super low, in my opinion.

always rwplace all your bumpstops and top mounts when doin it..will save you time/money in the long run.

if you wanna progress further, you can get poly bushes and uprated anti roll bars (eibach).

nah thats bollox. You can go super low with a lowering kit...coilovers just enable you to drop thcar to ludacris heights.

But thebwhole idea of coilovers isnt to go SUPER LOW, eventhough it might be the fashion.

coilovers are great if you are going on the track. Setting up corner weights etc. Also coilovers are great as you can set it to exactly 40 mil or 50 mil or whatever you want. loweringkits dont always go 40 lower even if they claim to...

Never heard anything bad about the FK gear, fancy trying that myself next. I have Eibach springs on my car, which are pretty good, but are a very conservative drop. They only do a standardised Polo spring for the whole range and not a 16V specific spring! Where as H&R do a set of spring developed for the 16V and will give a more accurate idea of low it will be.

Have a look over at Performance Polos for more like minded Polo chimps
