    I have a J reg mk2 16v and recently noticed a couple of things. [:s]

Firstly at low revs the cam belt makes a squeeling noise, its been doing this for about a week.

Secondly the car is stalling when I change down into first gear. The revs go right below 1K and sometimes the engine stops all together. Othertimes it pulls the revs bak above the 1K mark. Now this always used to happen when the car was cold, which is fair enough, but its started even when the engine is 100 degrees C.

Any ideas or advice as to what is going on would be appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

sure its the cam belt not the alternator belt or PAS belt? Is the cam belt in good nick? when was it changed last? Was the tensioner done at the same time?

As for the stalling check and clean the ISV. Also check the mixture.........before I had mine set up at stealth i played around with the mixture and it stalled at every junction.
