Replaced the valve stem oil seals today as was getting oil in the bores, especially in number 3 and considering that the block was just been machined and honed with new pistons and and rings am thinking only way left for oil to enter cylinders is through the valve stem oil seals.
Having removed lifter and springs then pulling out the old seals off the valve stems also pulled out the bottom valve spring retainers (all 8 the same) as the stem oil seal was pushed firmly into the bottom spring retainer. Had to knock them out with a hammer and drift. I’ve never seen this arrangement before and certainly the new Elring seals weren’t of sufficient diameter to press and friction fit into the retainers in the same way, the new seals are too small. So I’m thinking the wrong seals have been fitted in the past? Anyone know if these old seals and way they were fitted were incorrect please?
    Ta!
