The rear bolts of Lainey's Mk4 25J were sheared off and the heat shield was flapping about.
A previous owner had had a go at fixing it with blobs of weld onto the bracket on the catalyst!? Big fail!

Bit crap of skinflint VAG using nice SS threaded clips at the front, but carbon steel captive nuts at the rear.
I don't have access to a lift so I removed the catalyst to work on the bench.
But, it's a quick fix if you can gain access to a lift as you don't need to remove the cat.

    Method:
Take a punch, of about 5mm diameter, plus a biggish hammer, and bash the centre of the broken bolt.
The Captive Nut is only held with tiny welds at the corners and pops off easily.
Open out the hole to 10mm.
Slip a clip into each bracket,

    Job's a good 'un!

    I used some M6 x 15 A2 SS bolts and washers.

If ever I am in your neck of the woods, I will happily flash a revised engine map to it FOC.
    That is a promise.

    Ta so Eddie.

If you are ever up in North West Ireland you and your family would be very welcome to visit with Lainey and I.
Just working on a 3rd bedroom which should be ready by next summer. I hope.

    Dave.
