I will not say its stupid for one fan to pay so much for a Golf MK2 but its much more over my budget for a car like that. And if I had the cash I would rather spent them on a M3 or a M5.... or an old Alpina from Bayern who is a real driving machine. 7500 for a MK2 Golf Limited Edition is to much. Sorry!
Well I guess everyhitn is only worth what people will pay for it. People spend loads on Integrales and Escort Cosworths etc. this is good value if you are into that sort of thing (and I would be if I had cash!) If I had that much that money that I could waste on a car I'd not use much, I'd get a Tatra 813 or a Caterham (Maybe I'm bipolar)
The market for a car like that is a collector who's after the right car, the car he/she always wanted to own, where price doesn't come totally into the equation until it bounces past, say 10k. 7.5k is way OTT for a Mk2 Golf anyday, but if you just have to have a Limited, that's a bargain.
But then again its not a supercar is it! Compared to todays modern hot hatches it fairs pretty well, against CTR, FST, LCR etc... Shame it has been converted to RHD, that no doubt knocked serious money off. If I had the money and one came up Id have it in a snap, theres not many cars out there that you can say you own one of only 70 is there.
Back in the day, for that power output and 4WD, it was in theory rubbing shoulders with: - Delta Integrale - Sierra Cosworth 4x4 That was respected territory in the days when rally refugees were highly prized, relatively rare etc. Certainly niche!
Thread revival! http://vw-racing.org/ is a dead site. However I found an alternative that accounts for up to 50 Limited cars out of the 70. I will attempt to capture on here as this sort of information does go missing after a while. I am also keen to find any history on the two 3 door Limited cars that are known to have existed. Or were there more? We will see.
