I'm going to be fitting coilovers soon, and have got some uprated front top mounts ready, but I cant seem to find any rear ones - is it worth just changing the worn ones for new standard ones? Anyone know where I can get some from - VAG/ECP/GSF etc.

My MK3 had 78k on the clock when I fitted coilovers. The rear mounts were still like new so I didn't bother replacing them. Depends how old/what mileage your car is.

GSF didn't do the rears for mine so it was going to be a main stealer job anyway.

I've got the Prothane top mounts on my car. Got them in a GSF kit, but I think you can buy them seperatley from Big Boys Toyz

Do the poly top mounts make it a lot harsher / noieser?
I've heard some lads say that using poly top mounts is harsh on the shocks & can shorten their lifetime - any truth in this rumour?

If you`ve got coilovers on they take a lot more stick than the rubber items.

Note sure, but I remember readig something on VWvortex about poly rear top-mounts not allowing the damper to pivot enough causing damage to the damper unit.

Will have a search later today if I get some time and get back to you ... :)

I've heard that they make little difference compared to replacing the old ones with standard new VAG items....
