The rear window deicer on my MK2 golf (1987) has never worked. I checked the fuses and they are fine.

    What do you suggest?

look inside the rubber grommet that goes from the tailgate into the roof. Sometimes breaks at the join.

Broken connection most likely. If you trace along the aforementioned three lines you might be able to see/feel the break. Get some conductive material and bridge the gap.

had a better look today and the top 3 lines stop just before the end of the glass and do are onlu connected up at one end so have they just been put on the glass for show ? or left unconnected becuse of the highlevel brake light ?

hmm, may be the same prob with my mk1 demister (well, as you say, deicer at the moment)

A few of the lines are broken, as I scraped previous repairs off thinking it was dirt. doh!. The other lines should still work thou.
