Recommend me a gas soldering iron!

    Mac ones have gone for the powerprobes now! they must of realised they were crap!

    any up to date recommendations up to say 30? would ideally like a piezo ignition.

    are these things windproof?

    I'm not a fan of the portasol units, I've got a drawer full of the nasty things.

    They work OK for a while and then get all temperamental, spitting and carrying on.

    That goes for the older orange ones and the newer black, piezo ignited ones.

    I used to use them for work and was always replacing them hence the drawer full.

    I'd recommend trying just about anything else.

    I got one from Aldi a while back for about 12 or 15 I think - equivalent to 120W & works great with all attchments in a case etc & 3 year guarantee

    i have an iroda iron, and it was the nuts till i dropped it and it cracked.. que small gas fire as it was lit at the time... got a new one now and its still as good as ever :)

    I have the same one. Exellent value for money! Done a fair amount of work with it too. Something I do like about it, is the fact the porcelain bit has a metal collar around it which reduces the risk of it breaking if knocked. If it does, it's not like you spent a fortune on it! Still operates the same as the day I bought it, well chuffed!
