Any recommendations for new top mounts for my MK2?
It's currently got coilovers on, which I'm going to replace with these Eibach lowering springs and Bilstein gas shocks off eBay (£370). Thought it would be a good idea to renew the top mounts at the same time.

Gaza, this is the kit we fitted to our MK2. Unfortunately the rear springs are weak and any weight in the rear caused the tyres to rub quite badly.

Christ, that kit was 270 when I bought it for my mk2 about 18 months ago.

G60 top mounts are less fuss to fit IMO and just as good as MK3 - I've had both

Was that found to be a fault?

Same kit on mine 5 up (and 2 tubby dogs in the boot) over 15" BBS RZs and no contact.

No idea, just swapped them for Corrado VR6 springs, much better.

Do they use the mk2 GTI type bearing?

Think it's a stronger version, but yes.

OK. The mk3 one is far superior to mk2, but if g60 is also better that's good.

When I had my MK2 in bits last year the Bonrath Poly top mounts were still in excellent condition, must be nigh on 20 years old now?.

    What about the rear?

I've ordered the 16v kit, as opposed to the 8v one.
Apparently, the 16v kit has a higher spring rating for the heavier engine.

So started putting the struts and springs together and the little metal tab on the underside of the plate snapped off. Does this matter? Wasn't very sturdy to start with.

I think it’s just a locating tab to make sure the plate is in the correct position against the spring when installing.
