That's MTL as a swap then, though Redline claim you can use either. But the 020 boxes need a GL4 and they don't reccomend MT90 for those, so I'd stick with MTL....

    Here's a question:

You bung in some redline oil into your gearbox which has been running original oil for 10+ years, surprise it feels better.

Has anyone actually done a proper test and replaced with OE spec oil then replaced that with redline oil? What's the difference then? It's similar to ppl replacing clogged up paper filters with brand new cotton ones.

    Yup.

I drained mine of the original factory oil a couple of months ago and replaced it with VW mineral oil. I ran it like that for a week to flush the gearbox and it made no discernable difference to the weak synchromesh on 2nd and 3rd when cold.

After a week I changed to MTL and the gearchange is sweet as regardless of gearbox oil temp. The difference was noticeable, but my synchromesh is a little tired. If it was brand new I wouldn't expect to notice much of a difference.

Simply put the synthetic oil circulates and lubricates as well when cold as it does when warm. There's a proper explanation on Redline's website if you're interested involving oil layer thicknesses etc.
