has anybody got an idiots guide to removing the injectors from my 91 gti, the haynes manual may as well be in russian, thought i would get them cleaned as the car is now getting on for 160k.
If you look at the fuel rail, you`ll see two Allen screws. Undo these and then it`s simply a case of pulling the rail/injectors clear of the head. (after unplugging them of course) I say `simply`...you`ll have to remove the ISV, and disconnect a couple of vac lines to gain access, but it should be fairly obvious. Once you have the rail out, you`ll see the injectors are held on with clips. These simply slide out, so you can pull the injector off. Fitting is reversal of removal, etc.
Ah, but if you are the owner of a Bergen `red box` you`ll have nice long reach Allen sockets... And, yeah, the rail can be a stubborn tw*t, but nothing a gentle levering can`t solve.
i recal the problem was mine were all too long? i wanted to remove the lot from the head with the rail & brackets all together. in the end i split the rail from the brackets that held it on iirc something like that. i broke my plastic rail loom holder as well getting it off? hmm ages ago now i really cant remember
Yeah, if you were to try and remove it with the brackets, it`d be a much more difficult. Much easier to remove the rail from the brackets (the two Allen screws I mentioned), then if you really had to, remove the brackets afterwards. DC doesn`t need to remove the brackets, so he`ll be fine.
right yeah sounds familiar, the bracket bolts to the head were a mare so i had to split the plastic wire holder from them then pull the rail off leaving brackets in place
changed my injectors for a cleaned set today and all i can say about doing it is:- what a pain in the butt!
i bought a set on ebay but the ones that come out of the black car i will have cleaned by the same people and put in the green car and they clean the set for 46. www.injectortune.co.uk
