My polo track/road project needs new floor panels, and as they can only be brought from classic parts they cost in excess of 500.
So my question is can i replace the floor pan with a custom fab one, ideally just a flat sheet, which will still weld to the outer sills, and then possibly to the cage lower mounts inside.

Is this legal on a road going car, as i will be altering the chassis itself?

    Cheers Rick

Factory floor panels have ridges and indents pressed in them - this is designed to give them some rigidity and strength and stop them bowing. Also the floor pan is a stressed member within the monocoque shell. It keeps the sills and the tunnel at the right distance apart. A flat panel that bows will reduce the overall rigidity of the body in my personal view. Brace it with some small box section laterally would be my recommendation.
