Rescued cat - one of the Cat Protection cats, who didn't take long to find a new home.

Please feel free to criticise - I'm hoping to become a better photographer, so the more comments the better.

    Thank you.

It was a grab shot of a cat in his basket in the cat shelter, so didn't have chance to remove the blanket, else I would have lost the pose!

Not sure what aperture. (It is quite an old photo, with a different camera and the EXIF info is rubbish.)

I just like the picture, but don't have the Photoshop skills to change the blanket without messing up the cat's colour.

That's very nice! Much better job than I made of it when I was messing around with PS7. Presumably you desaturated one layer, then masked?

I once entered this in a competition at our local camera club and the judge, after saying he didn't like cats, said that it was spoiled by the orange blanket and that I should have changed it for a different colour.

(He also dissed a good photo of the (then new) R32 because he didn't like the reflection in the door! Said I should have moved it - I would have been happy to oblige, if it were mine!)

I'll have another play with it next week when I'm not at work, see if I can't improve it. Thanks for giving me the idea.

yea i de-saturated then masked... tis so easy after seeing a tutorial on it. lol

people in competitions get soooo fickle over things like that... all very well if you've got a studio and a bucket of cash to throw at stuff to photograph.
