Hi I've recently started resto on a 85 8v, on idle the engine is hunting and the idle is way to high even with the screw on the throttle body all the way in? There is also a soliniod next to the airbox that is quite abit? I've cleaned all of the breathers out and around the top of the metering head as everything was completely blocked, there was also a lot of water coming from the exhaust! I've followed a guide that I found on here and roughly set the co which has stopped the water coming from the exhaust but the engine is still hunting??
I've had a squirt around all the pipes and they seem ok? @peteg40 think you brought some charger casings from me Afew years back??
the solonoid sounds liek the increased idle valve, maybe that or the wirign to it is playing up? try blockign the pipes to it see fi that brings the revs under control. theres a relay for it above the fusebox if its the one im thinking of
The pipe from the soliniod goes to the back of the throttle body, what is the solinoid for? What is the correct rpm for an ev engine?
its there to raise the idle under load, I thought they were usually only seen on a/c cars but i have seen them time to time on the looms ive had in on non-ac cars so not exactly sure when they were fitted by vw. you should be able to get it to idle at around 900rpm
thats the AAV (does same job as ISV but in a different way) once car is fully warm it should be fully open, what it is as the car warms theres a valve inside that gradually opens up to lean out the mixture. you could try pinching off the pipe to it see if that helps
I've had a fiddle around there's abit of a whistle coming from the throttle valve area, all the pipes seem ok! The only thing I can think of is the servo but I've pumped the pedal and it goes down when the engine is started
