Having overcome a number of issues recently - don't ask. I want to sturdy up the mk2 before winter sets in.

Generally speaking my GTi's bodywork is in pretty good nick, apart from a bit of bubbling on the A-pillar near the windscreen seal, and on the inside of the driver's door near the bottom hinge.

Basically, do rust treatments work in slowing the damage caused by rust? If so, which are any good?

    Cheers, D

anything that seals the weather out will slow it ...nothing will kill rust apart from complete removal like blasting

bilt hamber products are decent , or the ones on rust.co.uk

Take the loose rust of with a wire brush - no need to go daft and then paint on the gel to 3-4mm thick and then clingfilm it over and tape the clingfilm down with masking tape or suchlike- it may take a day or two or longer if colder. Works a treat and will eat the rust back to bare metal. Once thats done get some zinc primer on it and whatever you would normally do after that
