Really only worth it for track days or for running high power tbh - on the edge of the topic really. Helix actually use an Sachs high clamp pressure plate for their 020 stuff.
Oe or Sporting sachs clutch? I've been using a standard Sachs clutch for two years sprinting and I've just won the ASEMC Modified category outright so i'm not exactly light with it.
Interesting thread. I'm pretty sure I'll be investing in a new clutch come Jan. Im probably going to get the standard sachs clutch from AVS as its a very very reasonable price: 1.8 16v Sachs 3000.381.001 69.50
I can recommend it, I used one in my MK2 8v with a 2.0 bottom end and touch wood its been absolutly fine since the 22nd May. Not exactly running massive power though
Although not strictly on topic, my clutch tip is to change the input shaft seal, pushrod seal and bush in the gearbox when you change the clutch. They only cost a few quid from GSF. As I found out if you don't they can leak oil onto your new clutch and cause it to slip and give you a headache! I'm running a standard LUK or Sachs (forget which now) clutch on my modified 2.0 16v, and no problems since I cured the leaky seals as above.
any idea what the part no is for the new seals? ive been looking on egay for the seal kits bit the listings are never clear

GSF don't sell the input shaft seal, they only do the 8v one so you need to get it from VW. The pushrod bush & seal can be bought from VW though
Any idea how much the whole kit is from VW? Going to do this Jan so may if its advised change the seals as well at the same time as the clutch. Any body have any opinions on the uprated sachs sporting clutch kits? Are they ok for general road use?

That's odd, I must have bought the 8v one then as I got all the bits from GSF? Fitted fine in any case and doesn't seem to be causing any problems (yet)!
Yeah the 16v 2y gearbox input shaft is larger, and GSF don't have the seal for it. At least I could only find an 8v one? Plus the one you listed on your post is the 8v one, which wont fit a 16v. I tried, its too small
so what do i need for a mk3 16v? im grudgingly getting the box off on sunday, may as well get any seals changed at the same time
Just an input shaft seal. Check your box code to make sure you get the right one. The thrust bearing should come in the clutch kit. If I was doing it then I'd replace the crankshaft oil seal (in which case you need new flywheel bolts), or at least get one just in case yours is leaking, and I'd also replace the pressure plate bolts as a matter of course, some people say it's not necessary but I'd do it for piece of mind.
so an input shaft seal and a crank shaft seal? are these reasonably easy to do with just the box off? do the diffs leak much? i really want to get rid of the oil leaks, otherwise im gonna sell up once this clutch job is over.
