I've just bought a seat ibiza 1999, 2.0L 16v gti cupra sport,i previously had a F reg 8v Golf gti mk2,i was going for a mk3 golf but was advised this was a better option and as as i wanted to stay with VW went with it. Its the first 16v car ive had and was told its not as quick off the mark but overall faster than the 8v. Ive noticed you have to thrash the testicles of if but it shifts when you do. Its frankly pants during 2000 - 3000 revs but goes like a rocket when it hits 3500-6000. Is this right? i dont wanna sound daft but ive never had a car that you have to work hard to get the power out of it. Is this the same with all 16v vw cars? cheers.
Yep thats right, on all 16v cars you find the power comes in higher up in the rev range. I used to have a 1.4 16v Ibiza and the power came in at 2000RPM...then again it was slow as hell! WWW.SEATCUPRA.NET has more SEAT info than you can shake a stick at.
yeah, 16v's dissappoint at low revs. but then so does a vr6! nothing beats a nova gsi for low down power IMO (a well driven one of these can get a good head start on most cars!)
yes but nova's shouldnt be mentioned on here, they're awful! lol you want dissapointing low end mate, try my mk3 golf 1.4, dissapointing anywhere.......looks nice though lol
but i didn't think your foot was down don't be upset darling at least your car's not been under a lorry
