    Hi Guys 'n' Gals

I'm going to service my Mk4 1.8T GTI Golf soon and looking for a good site to order all my filters etc for a service.. does anyone know of a good place to get OE parts? or a great place to find non OE parts which are just as good?

    Cheers
    Dan

    Cheers Guys,

I got my Oil, Fuel and pollen filters, spark plugs and sump plug from www.vwspares.co.uk all for under 30, looking good to me..

I have had a few VW's before, but this is my first VW I've had where *I'm* going to service and look after it myself... should be ok!

Cheers Matt lol - I'm not sure as yet... not long had my golf so not sure when the cam belt was last changed.. but again.. not sure if I would be able to do that myself or not.

Really looking to find a local meet so I can learn a lot more off other club members.

if its an agu engine, the service schedule says it has to be inspected etc but it not due to be changed at 120k. on a lot of these ive seen they were done at either 60 or 80, so best look at the service history. if you dont have any of that... best just get it done.

not at a garage in kent or esp not deal, as you wont be able to trust them :p

Forget VAG's 1.8t belt schedule. Change it at 60k, or better still, at the diesel interval of 40k. My own 1.8t belt died well before 70k

My 1.8T is on a 'T' plate and has done 116K I have been told.. and from my service book I can see its been done a few times... but not sure when the last change was... so if I go for 120K that would be ok then?

Also.... is it a job I could do (I know you dont know my experiance) I mean is it a difficult job to do?

As for any car, if you can't guarantee when the belt was last changed, make it your next job.

It's not a job you want to get wrong either. If any doubt, get it done at a garage.

is it pricey to get done??? never had a car that needed one done??? but I understand the importance of getting it done BEFORE it goes.

    Much.

My S3 belt went and simultaneously killed the turbo.

Audi nicely presented a bill for circa 4K.
