mine was leaving a spanner on the bottom pulley and turning it over.

cue bottom pulley rolling 15 foot down the workshop, everyone in fits of laughter at my stupidity and eight very bent valves.

    proper job

No really a mistake but when we were fitting the air horn on the golf and + lead touched the batt and it went off. We bloody flew down the garden!

I thought I'd change the rotor arm on my valver... Not knowing that it was glued on, I prized it off/smashed it with a screwdriver. Bought a new one, put it on, took the car out for a thrash... It conked out and when I took the cap off again, I'd realised that I'd levered against the trigger wheel thing, knocking it out of true, which smashed all the rest of the dizzy internals [xx(] 140 or something for a new dizzy [:^(] [8(]

I spent several hours outside in the miserable rain trying to replace the ARB bushes on my 8V MK2 a few months ago. It was the first time I had ever done this job, and trying to get the new ARB bushes in was a nightmare (although I know I could do it easily now).

After spending most of the afternoon doing that I stepped back and, well, imagine my delight as I realised I'd fitted the ARB upside-down.

I spent whole week removing, rebuilding and refitting the gearbox on my Rover....when I finished the job, I went into the house to wash my hands to avoid soiling the velour when I fired it up. This was when I noticed the clutch assembly on the kitchen table.

    b@gger, @rse, w@nk DOH!!!!!!

    I t was a bugger to fit aswell....TWICE!
