mine was leaving a spanner on the bottom pulley and turning it over. cue bottom pulley rolling 15 foot down the workshop, everyone in fits of laughter at my stupidity and eight very bent valves. proper job
No really a mistake but when we were fitting the air horn on the golf and + lead touched the batt and it went off. We bloody flew down the garden!
er? dunno really? didnt tie the olds wires up of the pierberg carb properly when i did the weber conversion, they fell on the exhaust manifold and all burnt/melted!
i left the battery connected and changed the gear box, some wires touched and set the car on fire!! do i win?
I thought I'd change the rotor arm on my valver... Not knowing that it was glued on, I prized it off/smashed it with a screwdriver. Bought a new one, put it on, took the car out for a thrash... It conked out and when I took the cap off again, I'd realised that I'd levered against the trigger wheel thing, knocking it out of true, which smashed all the rest of the dizzy internals 140 or something for a new dizzy [:^(] Edited by: DarrenW
my mate left the steering rack loose on a bentley, it dropped and shorted and set fire to the boot, now thats classy
Last year my cousin and i were fitting an amp, and sub into my car...we knew that the live wire was still connected, and outta the way...my little brother was feelin curious, and was holdign the livewire...he was bored so put the un-insulated bit onto my new amp...loadsa smoke, and my little brother shittin himself...luckily the amp was ok, and only the fuse had blown!
Your little brother sounds like a bright spark! A BRIGHT SPARK, geddit..... It's ok, i've got me coat on already
I spent several hours outside in the miserable rain trying to replace the ARB bushes on my 8V MK2 a few months ago. It was the first time I had ever done this job, and trying to get the new ARB bushes in was a nightmare (although I know I could do it easily now). After spending most of the afternoon doing that I stepped back and, well, imagine my delight as I realised I'd fitted the ARB upside-down.
havent really done any thing like that, just the usual putting every thing back on and finding you have forgotton something that needs to go on before all the stuff that took you an hour to put back on! tim
I've reversed over 3 Gunson Gastesters at 70 a pop..... Keep forgetting they're plugged in to the exhaust....
how about leaving the cold start inj fuel line loose and also leaving the coil wire off.....tried to start it and....up in flames she goes luckly i had a fire extingusher in the boot, just caught it before it got really bad a few wires and 2 fuel lines burnt
Let the jack slip & catching my hand breaking my fingers [:^(] (Lots of blood & swearing) Even had to jack car back up to get my mangled fingers out
