I've got a 2000 X plate 2.0i 8v Elegance hatch - had it about 6 months and its fine as a daily - no ball of fire by any means, but it does the job and was cheap!

Bog standard 90hp TDI estate should be fine, can't see why not. Taxi's in Gran Caneria were basically full of Skoda Octavia TDI estates and I liked them.

Dad's got an S plate 90bhp GLX extate and it seems to go pretty well, although its had some work done to it by Diesel Bob as the original fuel pump disintegrated for some reason.

I've towed my trailer with Jetta on and it coped surprisingly well.

The only thing i'd say is that the ride is a little hard and the seats are too - much more comfy in my hatch.

Got a 2004 90bhp TDI myself mate. Had it about 2 years, got 130k on the clock. Can't fault it. Comfy, quick enough, great on fuel and really practical.
