i've seen a bit about the alfa boxer flat four being used, and also rx7. maybe renault 5 gt turbo or mg metro. i suppose its a case of measuring up and scratching heads?

that would make an awesome sleeper just think you get a huge lump sitting at the lights on the 1/4 you take off with the front up in the air lol

I was going to say Alfa Boxer as well... Nice light engine - low centre of gravity too.

1700 8v on Twin Carbs is the one to go for I reckon.

PAAH! where's the fun in that. I'd rather have a crappy looking battleship grey sleeper(no flash paint job) with 200-300 bhp sat over the back wheels.

in that case, import all the scooby flat 4/beetle trans kit from the states with a remap it should be 300bhp, but the rest of the car will fall apart and it'll cost loads

just buy a remapped Fiat Coupe for 2.5k man [:D]

A guy up the street from me (about 12 years ago) had one with a 911 engine transplant. Wasn`t exactly a sleeper since it was bright orange with black stripes, but had a similar effect when people laughed at it...just before he blew their doors off!

I could never fathom why folk modify a car than go and paint it in a stupid lairy colour. Subtlety = class in my eyes. (not that i'm saying a Skoda Rapide is class you understand)

Sounds like a great idea to me!

Try asking on here for advice on fitting the Alfa engine:
    http://retrorides.proboards86.com/

There will be a few people on that forum who'll know all about it! I know there was a Mazda rotary powered one on there a while back too. :)

yeah from looking ont interweb and advice offered i think these have been used

    subaru
    rx7
    alfa 1.7 boxer
    maybe mk2 16v kr
skoda 1.3 (tweeked to around 120bhp)
    metro turbo

i neeed to rip the engine out and take some measurements with a view to make up some engine mounts for the alfa. i'd like to avoid chopping the skoda so i could retrofit the original engine if i wanted to.

first on the list is springs, stereo and body though.
if i ever get off my **** and do it i'll try to photo it all.

    would that confuse me?
apart from engine swap and small stuff like cambelt and head gasket change i havent done too much mechanical stuff

    would it be fast?

probably too heavy for a bike engine, ideally you need a 500-700kg car, unless you turbo it ;)
