    Hey everyone,

Wasn't sure where to put this, so i thought interior styling as it is ......well a bit!

Anyway, some time ago I saw the SLD5 and I thought about that would be great if i could incorporate that into the LED Cluster of the Scirocco.
The unit was originally built to have the LED's in the little black box of tricks which you'd simply mount of your dash somewhere.

So after a few emails to the designer Jason, he said he could build me a custom one with 'flying leads' that I could solder to the back of the LED compartment, well that was in March 2008!!

Now with the Wizard of NOS kit looking like it might actually be fitted to the car this year, i thought its about time to do some bits on the Scirocco.

So here is the install with photo's.

The D.R.E. SLD5F is available from Digital Race Electronics

I thought if all the shift LED's are clear, then the rest might as well be.
The center top LED is Alarm.
The original High Beam Light was replaced with a clear blue LED and a different value resistor replace on the PCB (Foil).
If you remember Blue LED's hadn't been invented then, and s VW used a bulb with a little blue cap.

Needles painted to match the 8 Gauge install and initial set up of the SLD5F.
The brightness of the LED's can be adjusted once installed into the Scirocco.

Hope you like the install, just can't wait to finish all the other bits on it now.

    :)

    THIS IS SO COOL! [8D][l]

I was looking around for shift lights for my track car a while back but gave up. This is an awesome solution, thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,
    Bruce.

    Thanks Guys,

To be honest its a doddle on the Mk.1 & 2 Golfs, Scirocco's etc that have the same display and the instructions that accompany the kit as so easy you cannot go wrong.

Well I finished putting the PCB (Foil) back during my lunch, so it's ready to go in and fire up.
That way I get to check all the LED's, set the brightness and make sure the High Beam warning lamp works instead of the bulb.

    Crispy,

It's just one of the long list of things I'm doing to the Scirocco, haven't even tried it yet.
I'm incorporating a toggle switch to turn in on & off, night time it might be bright, however there are brightness settings to dim it ;)

Will try and get it back into the Scirocco at the weekend and post my results :)

you could even use a toggle switch if they have a shared earth (or pos) through a resister to have a night mode

    Good luck

Yeah could do, but the Unit will be situated where the choke mechanism usually is, down towards the left of the steering wheel.
So once set wont need to touch it again.

This is great, cheers for putting it up.

I tried and failed to install an LED into the Mk2 clocks, but this has given me hope!

    Nice one.
