basically my set of spanners are too fat to fit inside the caliper to hold the slider pin making getting them off more hassle than needed

whose got a clue about whats worth getting for this specific role?

Eh... I never had a problem with getting calipers off with "normal" spanners.

Are you using one of these?

I've never used spanners? 7mm allen for the slider pins and socket for the caliper bracket bolts.

Are they that different on the Mk3, thought they were supposed to be the same as the 280mm Mk4 brakes?

Use little mole grips on the round part behind the 15mm hex?

Never had any problems like this - just use standard Halfords spanners

ive used mole grips in the past but it marks the round part on the slider pin which i dont like [:s] i know theyre only supposed to be c.35nm tight, but they always seem tighter afterwards.

anyway, i did find an old draper 15mm that i was going to grind down. it was in an old old tool box so was going to be sacrificed. turned out that it was much slimmer than my currernt spanners and just slotted in

Or the standard little 10 and 13mm spanner you get in the mk3 boot is a slim version

It's the 15mm that stops the slider turning that needs to be slim.
