Hi all. I think I've got problem with my ARL .When cold it smokes quite heavily for 5-10 seconds. What can it be?
is it just a cough on start up and then it clears? or are we talking thick black / white smoke that you can't see through??? if it just a cough don't worry, if it really thick and only when cold then it could be over fueling (does it take a couple of seconds cranking to start?) due to glow plugs on their way out (unburnt diesel can give white smoke)
Can be worn valve guides or seals allowing oil to drip down olfrom the head to the piston chambers. Causing smoke for a while.
It`s blue-ish smoke smelling like a diesel fumes. When it was really cold it got quite heavy.Another thing is engine runs rough for 5-10 sec and the clears.Power is as it should be (I think).
Might not be any codes though, it can take a lot to throw a code up, It could be a temp sender, but for now I would put a full lot of millers eco max througj it and see if things improve
Second that on the temp sensor, sounds like its seeing the wrong temp on start up. A fault code is likely as its a repetitive fault as opposed to a one off starting blip.
Swapped temp sender(coolant) but the smoke is still there. No fault codes found . Can it be an oil in the boost pipes?
hi there i have a golf mk4 with the ARL 150 PD engine in it and mine dose the same more when the weather is cold and just for a few seconds then it will clear and be all right for the rest of the day and my smells and look like diesel smoke Some one told me could be the injectors not spraying right when on combustion stroke
My mate told me to check glow plugs. He also thinks that smoke is caused by oil in intake pipes.Wouldn`t think it would be injectors as it would run rough all the time?
