I have just managed to snap one of the front wishbone bolts on a mk3. the threaded part of the bolt is in the subframe, how would i go about removing this?

the front one (horizontal) the one that acts like a hinge for the wishbone

cut the subframe open is the only way

unless you can see a bit of thread poking out that can be welded ?

the engine and box I took out yesterday. Plan was to get the sub off today but after that thing snapped I packed up and went inside so wishbone is still there but Im sure it will come off.

If anyone local to Slough as a very cheap (as close to free as possible) mk3 subframe Ill take it. save me f***ing around.

The last one i repaired had about 15mm protruding from the s'frame into the front bush. looking up at the underside of the sub you can see 2 welds about an inch long each. if you grind them off you can then lever the top half that houses the front bush, out and up. this should give you enough room to slide the wishbone off the the remaining part of the bolt then wind it out with vice grips or whatever.
once you've done that chuck the wishbone back in and hammer the bent part of the subframe back into place and re-weld with the bolt just slightly nipped up.
worked a treat for me. then get the weight back on the wheels before tightening it some more.
