I was out in the snow on monday, went to take the turn but the snow was extra compacted and my car had other ideas..... Sorry about the crummy pictures I couldn't see any damage, fair enough I thought, it could've been worse! Then some bloke drove past in a Defender and offered to tow me out, great I said and hopped in the Landy to go get a rope. This isn't so bad after all I'm thinking, till I got back to be confronted with this... Some poor mother in a Volvo with her six billion children had done exactly the same thing coming from the other direction and tried to push poor Golfy here into the field, and she's dented the sill! She was very apologetic and we exchanged details, no worries. Then matey with the Landy pulled her car off mine and she tried to go on her way, of course gravity and friction had other ideas. another sill dent later she actually got away. Then a kindly fellow in a low loader with a winch drove past on the way to pull two other people out of ditches and out the blue offered to pull mine out! He whacked the winch on and had it out in minutes And thats my story I think I'll stay at home next time it snows.
Damage isn't too bad, its on the black strip so doesn't show that much. TBH I'm not too sure how to put in a claim, my insurance is 3rd party only so I dot think they'll handle it for me, any ideas anyone? They're working ok here, try this! http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff181/ez-does-it/Image022.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff181/ez-does-it/Image021.jpg
The Volvo driver is the 3rd party, and has damaged your car, so you claim against her. If for instance there was only damage from you coming off the road yourself, then you wouldn`t be able to claim for that. Be careful, though. Even a small dent in the sill could have your insurers crying `write-off`...
what a crazy woman. the fact there is another car half in the air, half in a field, shouldnt she have twigged something wasnt right and drove accordingly grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr etc
Highly likely given the age of the car. Tread carefully, or you'll lose it. TPFT is a blessing in disguise at times.
Yeah I was going to say that as well, it's all very well giving the woman grief about driving off the road, but EZ went off the road first
Not to slam brakes on when you 1st slide...very hard not too we need more experiance of winter driving
Aye best to let go of everything and wait for traction to be regained, plus drive much slower + in high gears. Most fun I had in snowy conditions was driving up a gentle slope, only just made it Ideally we should be switching to proper winter tyres like they do in europe, and I think skidpan type practice included as part of the learning process would be a good plan!
She crashed into you, she pays, you can ask for your car to be returned to its original state regardless of cost. You do not have to accept the insurance offer. Have a look at Honest John explains what you are entitled to and its more than the insurance will offer !
Seconded Winter tyres are available but not too cheap, and most people just don't care about their tyres Im not sure if they'd even be that effective in hard pack snow like this?
^^ not sure, but I was looking at hire cars for my skiing trip to bulgaria and one of the options with the golf/megane was snow chains on the tyres!!!! sounds like fun to me
yeah you're right its not like winter tyres can wor miricles or anytrhing, you still prob would have slid on that kind of surface unless you were pretty much crawling along! snow chains are just the thing but its not like you see it that often in the UK.
Nice countryside and sky. Shame about the Golf, hope it is alright, and I like the way u told the story it made me laugh even though it was a bit of a mare by all accounts.
