Errrmmmm are you sure.... Bigger tyre contact area, less grip in snow and ice. Why else to rally card use thinner tyres in sonw/ice conditions.
no other way around you need to bite into the snow 2cvs are good in snow cos they have bicycle wheels ( only thing they are good for mind!
when I had my golf I used to have some wheels with colway mud & snow tyres fitted that I used when the snow was bad, loads more grip than normal tyres
You need a thinner width, higher profile & extra grooves that go right out to the side wall for snow driving.
When my mate had his jap impreza we put on some Conway mud/gravel tyres (forget the profile rims were 15's) in the snow and went for a play. The level of grip they produced on ice and slush was impressive.

I couldn`t get my car up the hill from my garage, car-less for 2 days, I was gutted [:^(] . Snow chains for me next year!
