Not to mention useless. How much compacted snow do we ever have to drive on, for > "1" day? Studs will last no time digging down to tarmac.
yeah GF borrowed my vectra as she was doing big mileage...... first couldnt get off the drive, then stuck in the middle of the first T junction!!!! last night was fun, check the vid in the FWD FTW thread
Were definitely worth the investment when fitted to my daughter`s Mk4 GTI (front only) over the past few years ... primarily in Aberdeenshire. Vredenstein Snowtrac - not only great in the snow (we live offroad) but also when cold, frosty, wet and muddy. Lasted well through the Summers also.
Fronts only I tried that with the Colway M&S - oversteery! - but they've got heaps more grip I suppose... (useless cornering in the dry, and humm like Land Rover tyres)
had them on a mini ( old stlye) when we had snow every winter, every other fecker was wheelspinning. Will prob sit in the garage for the next 4 years if i get a set.
Ah - all I was saying was that the extra grip at the front created a huge imbalance when I did fronts only, and it was one oversteerer. No problems with those Vredesteins I assume...
Since when? We have a couple of customers that fit studded tyres each winter, both old guys, one with a Saab and another with a Merc. I wouldn't bother but they have been doing so for aslong as I can remember.
They're deffo illegal - the RAC Rally has never allowed them, and it must point to Road Traffic Act / legal stuff. I can recall the rally drivers moaning that they couldn't have their studs, but rules were rules.
They probably know - I mean the price of the tyres each will be telling them something. They're probably in the "winging it" category.
Pretty sure studs have been banned for many years ... can`t find a reference though Info - http://www.etyres.co.uk/bad-weather-tyres Chris .. yep, appreciate your experience ... Vredestein`s were very good indeed with no reported issues, daughter does enjoy her driving so would have noticed (she is now using a certain Mk2 and in her element)
