Software for VAGCOM

Hi all

In the numerous threads on this subject, there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer to the questions posed by Ebay sellers saying they'll only supply the cable, with no software and only a 'limited functionality' link.

Exactly what can be done with a VAGCOM lead without paying for this licence?

I think it restricts some fault code descriptions and you can't do stuff like coding. Also if you want support from Ross-tech you will have to pay.

With a genuine cable you get free updates for life, free technical support and obviously full functionality of the cable and software

How can you tell if it's a genuine cable or not?

If it's genuine it will cost 250 upwards


They look like the above and on the reverse of the OBD plug there is a sticker with a unique serial number on it.
