http://www.beetles-uk.com/ import the beetles, campers etc, but I can't see any mention of Golfs.

And yes, the last Beetle was made a few months ago, but there are still some in stock at the moment. I'd rather have a proper old one though, if only I had some spare cash!

if you were to import a brand new mkI golf from south africa, could you then register it in this country as a '53' plate?

Theres a guy in my work with a South African blue mk1 Citi on an "M" plate. The build quality isn't as great as the original mk 1 though. Oh, and they're all 5 door !

Citi's not a patch on the original mk1 - lot of "restyling" - not nice.

What's up with the tailgate area? I thought it's the same.Mines got big bumpers, no metal strip under the front grille, front wings go out or in abit or something and their's a line in the rear quarter. I thought everything else was pretty much the same, mines still has the old type dash unlike the new shape they have now.Oh and some weird carb that no one can identify over here.

there's a terrible terrible one goes around glasgow/north lanarkshire area. it's a poor attempt at maxing it, chicken wire as mesh grille, blacked out windows, silver painted rear wiper. very laughable! [xx(]

I couldn't say exactly what the differences are, but when I saw one in the VW dealer I was working in, I didn't like it as much as an original mk1.

Anyone know anyone who's got one for sale?

I'm sure user 'passat' or summit similar had a 1996 1.6 N reg one that he wanted to sell at one point?

I can't find any for sale anywhere! It needs to be quite a late one but I can't even find early one's!
