As above. Temporarily have a space-saver and hoping I never have to use it, but Sod's Law and all that..............

There's big yellow stickers on it that say not to go over 50mph, but no indication of tyre pressure.

I keep my usual tyres at 30 psi. Should the space-saver be the same?

    TIA

From a random site apparently for a speed restricted space saver 60psi, but i think its usually a higher pressure of 40psi and over...

    Higher usually than normal tyres.
Due to the smaller contact patch.
Should say in the owners manual?

60psi on my mk3 golf space saver, needs it aswell. When i came to use it it was low on pressure, around 30psi, and when i got home which was less than a mile the tyre was hot to the touch.

Thanks. It's been in the boot of the GTI (manual long gone) and it's soft to the touch, it's been in there so long.

(My own spare is on the GTI whilst one split-rim BBS has gone for a slight repair job, which is why I've got the space-saver.)

Glad you warned me - I would never have guessed the pressure would need to be so high!

All spares are supposed to be 60psi, due to the fact they sit in there for ever and leak all the time, so by infalting to 60psi, when you need to use it, it should have a reasonable amount of air in it.

stella I'll aways do it to 60psi, and on normal sized spares 40PSI

Right, as soon as my local sorts his pressure thingy out, I'll go and get it blown up (hope that's not tempting The Fates!). Trust it to have broken just when I need it.

Thanks, all, for the advice :)
