hi, i have purchased a full sized alloy for my car of ebay to replace the stoopid space saver they put in the mark3 gti, i am now on the look out for a tyre, my local scrap yard has a car with good 205/65/15v tyres on it, however my car has 205/50/15v on it, wud this difference be ok for use as a spare?

i have a 195 55 15 tyre as a spare and 195 50 15 all round outside. Even the quick fit guy suggested it.

No problem as you probably get the puncture repaired/replaced and refit it.
Would recommend brands hatch on mismatched tyres though

No that tyre size is wrong, and would mean there would be no point having a full size spare as you'd still have to take to easy as it's wrong.

Why no just buy a new one, a 205/50VR15 budget is only about 25 quid.

    What's wrong with spacesavers anyway?

If you fit a 205/65 instead of a 205/50, you'll have a tyre which is about 6cm higher than the rest...
