anyone had troubles ordring tools from vw? over here on the isle of ****e, my local vw dealer refused to sell me a tool that would hold the flywheel so i could undo it,hassle free tooling thats my idea,at bout 9 its worth the spend, but he stood there with a moan on that " nope cant do that, cant sell u that" proper attitude,no need for rudeness! even said to him that i have an order number and part tool from the bently manual, they even in there said i could get one. he said that i might take away buisness cos im doing my own repair? lol even tho ive spent in 2 weeks at there place bout 400 quid on g60 arches and steering colum . Anyways i managed to get hold of one from a mechanic at work but just interested if anyone else had issues with ordering tools ?
Yes I've had the same problem trying to get tools from Dealerships. They just won't let you buy tools from them. Stupid really. They will still make money on the tools and why would I take my car to a dealership for them to fix it when I am more than capable of doing it myself (especially at their prices!). Oh well their loss.
If you get the right parts person they will oblige. Most special tools can be purchased from here and or made as they are usually designed for the dealer mechanics in mind as they can`t be @rsed to make one. IIRC that flywheel tool I made in about five minutes with what I had lying around in my garage. Of course there are some tools which must be bought on Ebay as you just can`t get them anywhere else
its vw who state that special tools can't be sold thru the dealerships. trade customers get a special number to order them thru.
thats it tho,im a trade customer, working for garage on the island {parts},but in the end got it threw someone else who works there, but annoying at the end of the day
Thats bull I can order any tool from any dealer for any manufacturer. The only reason they could refuse on is lack of stock or short stock, Mercedes tried to withhold tools using the excuse that there was a shortage for the dealers in the country. |Mercedes have been prosecuted along with other manufacturers, somewhere on the lines of fair trade or block exemption I think. Not sure who youd need to contact if refused but Id search about and complain. The dealers are scared of the competition because of the pi55 poor job they do. Only three weeks ago I had the dealership manager of the local Audi dealer ring me and apologise about the conduct of his staff, bet the guy had never had to eat so much humble pie. It was either that or I made an official complaint about his incompetent staff
not local but worth a look http://www.samstagsales.com/vwaudi.htm or http://www.asttools.co.uk/ for UK general equipment
Not really, I'm told I'm not aloud to sell them so I don't, they pay my wages which pays my mortage so I do what I'm told.
I understand you have to follow what your boss says but your original post sounded as if you were speaking about VAG dealerships in general. They must be available to independent garages, that’s why some try and price the tools so high. i have a mate who is a Porsche specialist, he recently paid almost 3k for the locking pins for one engine, but he will make the money back because he bases his prices on the ridiculous dealer charges
Sorry no, thats just the policy at my place. We don't get involved with selling them to trade either as all our trade custom goes to our trade centre soon to be a TPS.
Each dealer is its own company (might be part of a group, or chain of dealerships) which is independent of the manufacturer (VW). So while they have a clear link with them, its not VW's policies, its the dealer's one. Obviously there's a bit of a local restriction going on here?
try here: http://chrometrader.co.uk/ViewProdD...dd=/laser.asp&SUBCAT_CODE=335&manu_name=Laser or gsf - they stock laser tools also.
problem with VW dealers, they don't have a idiots guide to tools, only the workshop have a list & it means nothing!! and all tools are special order with them, so no sending back. I order all mine off the correct VAG number, if i want any kept in my tool box!
