My speedo isnt workin on my Mk2 Golf, I have replaced the cable which had snapped but still no joy!! Any ideas
remove the cable from the gear box and turn the internal cable one way or the other quite fast with someone inside checking if the speedo works ,if it works it is not fitted in the box right or the plastic drive has pulled out of the box when you removed the old cable
Twist the cable about as you push it on, it can be a right mare to get the square pin in the middle to locate onto the speedo properly!
The speedo works when I connect a drill to the end of the cable BUT............... I can see the plastic drive thing on its side inside the gearbox, I've been poking around through the speedo cable hole trying to get it out............... But now I can't see it any more[:^(] any ideas as to how I can get it out now??? can I leave it in there and hope for the best and just get a new one from Vw??? What a bast*rd.........[:^(]
some say leave it in there and let the gearbox chew it up, drain the oil a few weeks later and repeat till no more bits come out. Problem is it may end up wedging itself somewhere it shouln't and screw up the box! It's pot luck I'm afraid. Get a very good torch and a set of very long tweasers, then hope for the best!
Deff cant see it or feel it anymore Hope for the best it is then Right, So do I need to buy parts (12) Guide for Pinion - 014 409 193A (13) Seal - 001 301 131 (14) Speedometer Pinion - 084 409 197 Thank you for your help matey
I dont think they are the right bits................. I can find the speedo bits for the i.8 gearbox Can anyone tell me which bits I need its for a 1989 1.8 8v I dont know how to tell which gearbox I have[:^(]
Look under 'speedometer speedometer drive cable electr. control unit (printed circ.)for oil press.warn.light' under 'Electric Systems' 171 957 821 A - gear - white (140mph speedo) - 3.00 171 957 821 B - gear - red (120/160mph speedo) - 3.00 N 900 154 01 - securing ring - 0.14
Got the bits ordered from Vw They also recommended leaving the bit I dropped in the gearbox as it will hopefully go to the bottom and stay there
