I've got some of these, but want to buy longer ones: These are out of a Mk1 OEM top mount, so aren't off a shelf. Anyone know of a source? Cheers,
Chris the little shop outside Silverstone's main gate use to do them, not sure if they still do, (Trident Racing Supplies, Unit 31,Silverstone Circuit, Silverstone,Towcester, Northamptonshire, NN12 8TL Telephone: 01327 857822 They dont have a web site, i might well be up that way later in the week, could pop in and see
Thanks Doug, I know Trident and was there yesterday morning! Shut! Apprently they're not open on a Sat out of season! I don't know if they do them - I'm sure I've been offered threaded bar there before as some vain attempt to ape studding. Will rake through the brochure and see if I can see anything.
splined bolts are some times refered to as security bolts or tamperproof bolts have a look under that sort of thing and see if it turns up anything usefull. john
China! http://www.blakeacre.co.uk/Products/Spline-Bolts/ "Due to the more specialist nature of these products and the more specific applications of individual customers we only stock these parts to customers schedule/order requirements." They seem to be called "Spline Bolts". Continuing the search!
Hmmm... .. these don't exist on the aftermarket. M12, no prob - wheel studs, but for M8 there's nothing. So they'll need to be robbed off an OEM component. The Mk1/Scirocco top mounts are great, but the studs are just not long enough. I've two longer ones I've collected from something over the years, but I've no idea what from. I'm thinking steering columns and other fitments / brackets etc. Does anyone have recollections where they've seen these on (any) cars?
Spot on, the scrapyard was full of them today, M8 x 25 Also the V40 has M10. Update / pics now on this thread: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=203518
M6 now found @ RS Components, not splined as such, but designed to grip thinner panels with a small amount of deformation: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=0827439#header
Since arrived. I've yet to bolt up one of these M6 clinch studs, but they appear too big for the existing M6 holes and I can't see how they're going to bite up much. Meanwhile the M8 scrapyward splined Cinquecento studs went in perfectly
