    Hi,

I noticed my 16v is making a high pitch squeaking noise in gear. It only seems to do it intermittently, any ideas what it could be?
    Cheers

few things id do is check the gearbox oil level and rock the engine and box from under the bonnet see if you can hear it there, get someone to lift clutch up in gear just to the biting point and engine revs drop slightly with hand brake on and see if you can hear it with bonnet up
are you 100 % sure its from gear box

No, it doesn't make the noise with the clutch depressed while moving.

I'm not sure if its from the gear box, sounds front off side of engine bay.

I've only noticed the noise a few times whilst driving but I'll check stood still with inc revs and let you know.

Could it be the PAS as it has happened when driving in pretty much a straight line?

I will read the haynes and find out how to check the cambelt tensioner and alternator bearings.

not that experienced with pas but ive noticed them squeal more in full lock, check the tension anyhow,i doubt you will find how to check for noises in the manual,it will show how to check for tension, you could check the tension of the V belt (alternator belt)though it could be possible its showing the first signs of wear under load, and for the sake of a few quid from gsf is worth replacing anyway
