Car's not been starting and we ran fault code check and and came up with no signal being sent from hall sender/sensor

Changed the dizzy and it cured the fault code and had a weeks fine motoring till this morning when it wouldnt start again, got it started, and a couple of times throughtout the day, ran diagnostics again and got same code, ran it again and code was gone,
Mechanic thinks it could be another dodgy dizzy as it's apparently a common fault, and an ecu benchmark test should confirm, but at the cost of 70 which i don't wanna spend.
Anyone think it's likely to be the dizzy again, or have any other suggestions, i thought the hall sender was a different part and i could replace it individually?

What engine ?? Some later corrodos, if corrado will show hall sender fault if ignintion on and engine not running, i would look at engine speed sensor behind oil filter if fitted ??

    Hi
If it is an average mileage car, then I would change the ignition switch.

    okay, it's started being a ******* again!

not had any problems since I started this thread in Februrary, but the cold weather of late, especially when it's iced over is killing it! so I can only presume the weathers affecting it now.

still does the same thing, it'll start then cut out instantly!

dizzy, ignition switch or something else?

    Hi
Could it be linked to low battery and immobiliser issues.

check the fault codes on the immobilisor control box, this will tell you if there are any problems with the key coding and/or wiring

no faults with immobiliser when it was last checked, just the hall sensor- no signal.

just tried starting it now, hasn't started for the past 2 days, took 10 go's, so i popped bonnet and smacked the dizzy about, wiggled the leads etc, and it started, this "trick" has worked twice now!

turned it off and it wouldnt restart, gave it a few go's then left it and came inside..........

next time it won't start, i'll try wiggling the wires to see if it's a coincidence.

changed dizzy in february, granted, it was 2nd hand, but chances of the same problem?!....

tried my technique earlier and can't get the *******o going!

also, how can the cold weather affect the wiring, only doesn't start when it's frozen, it's ran fine since feb! [:s]

let the ice melt, had a crack at it, 10 go's later i decided to try other keys to see if it was immob, 3 go's and i put the clutch in and it roared into life, took it for a 10 minute drive, heated it all up and such like, pulled up home, switched off, tried to restart and not a ****ing chance!!

    I just don't get it..............
