Hello, I'm seriously considering buying an mk5 gti. I love the car but I hate the steering wheel and the climatronic stystem, I drove a buddy's for a month and all I could think about was how much I hated the wheel. Are those components backwards compatible if I wanted to buy a wheel and climatronic system from an mk7 and swap them?

Hi Conrad. I have an Edition 30 and have just done the Mk7 wheel swap. I had to upgrade the steering wheel controller and managed to find a red stitch steering wheel from eBay in Italy. You have to use the steering wheel without cruise control and unfortunately at this stage it's not possible to get the illumination to work on the buttons without changing the steering rack for a Mk6 item. However, I have someone looking into it.

It's also possible to swap the climate controls from a Mk6, but some wiring may be required. Brings the cabin right up to date with the addition of an RNS510 sat nav unit too.

    Liking the mk7 wheel deako.

I would go for the mk6 setup as it all works. Not sure if you need a more recent head unit for it as temp and heated seats get displayed on the screen.
I'm not to keen on the mk5 wheel either but a newer one is expensive

Nice to see it still has the protective film on the VW badge in the centre of the wheel!

Started looking for a mk6 one now. Dawn you deako.

The gti mk6 one has a similar round airbag like the mk7 as far as I know. There are some about with mk5 style centres.

Yeah. I installed the CH controller and had to perform basic settings on the ABS and steering. Managed to get a controller for 65.
